Snack Attack Expo - A Great Day
Wed, 2012-02-15 23:00 — CoachDOur 5th Annual Stamford Robotics Expo was held in 2012 on February 12th! It's in the books. Thanks to everyone who helped make it such a great success. And special thanks to all the kids who participated and did the hard work to learn about food safety and design and build cool Lego models.
Our event was covered on News Channel 12 (hope you saw it!), and was also covered in the Stamford Advocate (you can read that story here)
Our reviewers very much enjoyed talking to the teams and discovering and recognizing their unique strengths. We also enjoyed the opportunity to see the "big kids" with their cool FLL robots.
We enjoyed the opportunity to share our signature expo event activity. In fact, our activity was so well received that it will be reused for a Jr. FLL exhibition event to coincide with the upcoming FIRST robotics CT tournament in Harford where it will be run by FIRST team volunteers. We hope the participants all had a great time celebrating their end of season with our Snack Attack activities.
We'd like to thank our keynote speaker, Raj Cholleti for his fun opening remarks. We would also like to thank our award presenters, Chris Tasik, Ellyn Savard, and Curtis Battles. We thank them for recognizing the teams and for the work they have done and are doing to continue to build these programs for Stamford and Connecticut.
Special Visitors
In addition to those already mentioned we would like to once again thank Senator Richard Blumenthal for making time in his busy schedule to share some words of inspiration during our opening ceremony.
Stamford Robotics Club and Volunteers
Many volunteers of all ages helped make this event possible. Whether serving as reviewers, event activity volunteers, team coaches or mentors, or just helping out the day of the activity - this event would not be possible without their support.
We'd like to especially highlight the Stamford Robotics club formed at Stamford High School by Dawn Winsor. We thank them for mentoring teams, helping design our activity and of course helping in so many way on the day of the event?
What's Next?
For many of you, your kids enjoyed participating in this event, but next year they'll be ready for the next challenge, FIRST LEGO League.

Our Expo date for the Snack Attack season is set - our 5th annual Expo will be on February 12th, 2012!
Registration will open in early December for registered Jr. FLL teams.

KT Murphy Jr FLL Expo

Now in their second year, KT Murphy boasts 5 Jr FLL teams and 1 FLL team. Go teams!
Stamford Robotics was happy to be there to help out.
Thanks again to the parents and staff of KT Murphy for making this happen for their kids as well as Kiwanis for their financial and other support for KTMurphy and Stillmeadow.
Kid's Put Their Best Body Forward at 2011 Expo
Sun, 2011-02-13 22:30 — CoachDThe 4th Annual Stamford Robotics Expo was held in 2011 on February 13th!
31 Jr. FLL teams, 5 FLL teams, over 75 volunteers, as well as some very special guests, made for a fantastic event. We celebrated our youth and their awesome LEGO creations and science knowledge. A fun time was had by all.
Over 200 young students representing teams from: Stamford Elementary Schools; Stamford community organizations like Boys and Girls Club, YMCA, and CTE; 8 Girl Scout sponsored teams from across Connecticut; a community team; and a team from Wolcott Connecticut were in attendance. Jr. FLL teams (age 6 to 9) explained the LEGO models they created to the event reviewers, talked about their "show me" poster, and told about all the cool things they learned researching this year's "Body Forward" biomedical engineering theme. Meanwhile FLL teams (age 9 to 14) had one more chance to run their FLL robots, competing in head-to-head competition with other FLL teams with the robots they built and programmed themselves.

We are very pleased to announce that Jyotsna Winsor, youth co-founder of Stamford Robotics, was honored with the 2010 "Light a Fire" award for Most Involved Teen by Moffley Media in part for her work with Stamford Robotics. Jojo was featured in the November/December issue of Stamford Magazine.

Stamford Robotics at Stone Soup!
Tue, 2010-10-05 00:00 — CoachDStamford Robotics once again joined in at the Stone Soup for the 21st Century event.
We presented in the "fairway" demonstrating FIRST LEGO League for 9 to 14 year olds, and Jr. FIRST LEGO League for 6 to 9 year olds. Kids had a chance to run the SMART team state champion robot, and build LEGO models related to this year's theme.
Coach D. and Dawn Winsor from Stamford Robotics also presented one of the many community learning sessions titled "How to build a successful FIRST LEGO League team".
